機(jī)架是軋鋼機(jī)的主要部件，它在軋鋼過程中承擔(dān)金屬變形給予的負(fù)荷。因此要求機(jī)架有足夠的強(qiáng)度和剛度，以保證設(shè)備安全和產(chǎn)品質(zhì)量。型鋼軋機(jī)的機(jī)架形式較多，常見的機(jī)架形式有開口式機(jī)架、閉口式機(jī)架和半閉口式機(jī)架3種。

據(jù)說在14世紀(jì)歐洲就有軋機(jī)，但有記載的是1480年意大利人達(dá)·芬奇（Leonardo da Vinci）設(shè)計(jì)出軋機(jī)的草圖。1553年法國人布律列爾(Brulier)軋制出金和銀板材,用以制造錢幣。此后在西班牙、比利時(shí)和英國相繼出現(xiàn)軋機(jī)。
