軋鋼，就是在旋轉的的軋輥間改變鋼錠，鋼坯的形狀的壓力加工過程。所謂軋鋼工藝過程就是一系列軋鋼工藝過程組合而成的加工流程。

棒材精軋件后為什么要采用穿水冷卻工藝？（1）提高了產(chǎn)品的力學性能；（2）減少了產(chǎn)品表面二次氧化損失；（1）切分孔型老化，切分孔出來的料在切分契尖處較厚，增加了切分刀的切分負荷。（3）穿水后，由于軋件溫度低，剛度大，在冷床輸入輥道上事故減少，軋件在冷床上冷卻時塌腰彎曲減少，可以提高成材率和產(chǎn)品質(zhì)量；（4）冷床長度可相應減少。
